Most recently I worked on a feature documentary following two young brothers from Alaska who travel to some of the largest mines across the US and Canada looking to shine a light on the actual damage mining does to local communities. This film uses Bristol Bay, Alaska (home to the last and largest wild salmon run in the world) as an anchor to tell the story and inform the audience.
The challenge was to balance the devastating information that is unearthed in the footage with a humanizing touch. We accomplished this by diving deep into a set of four characters whose lives have, and will continue to be, impacted by dishonest mining practices. Empathy and respect were paramount in telling this story, a personal achievement I am extremely proud of.
